Tailored Positive Psychology for Autistic Flourishing
A few years ago, I began to suspect that I might be autistic. In an article in Lancet Psychology, Dr. Lai and Professor Baron-Cohen (2015) noted that diagnosis in adulthood is happening because of awareness, changes to the diagnostic criteria, and the spectrum concept and they wrote about the “lost generation” of autistic people whose diagnosis would have been missed when they were children.
Anecdotally, adults in this lost generation have a few different signposts that lead them to a diagnosis: having a child get diagnosed, having a close friend who gets diagnosed, recognizing themselves in someone else’s blogs or social media posts, and experiences during the pandemic.
Working with a positive psychology coach to figure out what my deal is and how to accommodate myself was truly life-changing.
Working from my strengths and values, I've learned how to work with my brain instead of against it. I've built my self-confidence and developed a mindset that helps me cope better with the challenges of living in a world that was not designed for me.
I am currently completing a Master's degree in Positive Psychology and Coaching Psychology and expect to graduate in March 2027.
